- Launching of permanent cultural spaces devoted to Joan Miró and Pau Casals at the VIP Lounges managed by GIS (Gestió i Serveis Trade Center) at Barcelona-El Prat Airport
Cultural spaces devoted to two world-famous figures, the painter Joan Miró and the musician Pau Casals, were opened today at Barcelona Airport’s VIP Lounges. GIS, the company in charge of managing the VIP Lounges, is thus promoting the creation of cultural areas at the airport to promote the artistic legacy of the two figures.
As the company’s CEO, Josep Munné explained, “our aim is to provide added value to the services available at airports all over the world.” The director of Barcelona’s El Prat Airport, Sonia Corrochano, highlighted “the possibility of letting the thousands of people who pass through the airport VIP lounges every day get to know the two artists a little better”.
The Joan Miró space features a series of photographs of the art projects carried out by the painter in Barcelona, including a mural of the airport, which provides “a true welcome to the vast numbers of tourists who visit Barcelona every year”, added Rosa María Malet, director of the Joan Miró Foundation, during the opening ceremony.
For its part, the Pau Casals space features a photographic exhibition of the renowned musician and a large map illustrating Casal’s international fame. As Jordi Pardo, the Director of the Foundation stated, the idea is “not only to provide a glimpse of his genius, but also to show his humanist values and his work in favour of peace”.
Both spaces are in Barcelona-El Prat Airport’s VIP Lounges: the Miró Lounge is located in the international zone and the Pau Casals Lounge in the area for Schengen-bound flights.
